Prolozone and Prolotherapy Injections in Annandale, Virginia

When joint, tendon, or ligament pain keeps returning, you may start avoiding the movement that brings it back. Work, exercise, sleep, and family responsibilities can become harder, and temporary relief can leave you worried that the problem will keep returning. At Health Builders, we provide prolozone and prolotherapy injections in Annandale. We examine how your body moves and identify the joint, tendon, or ligament involved. Then we explain whether prolozone or prolotherapy can help you return to daily activity with less pain.

What Are Prolozone and Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy commonly uses concentrated dextrose, a form of sugar. The solution is injected around a joint, tendon, ligament, or the place where a tendon or ligament attaches to bone. The solution creates a controlled response in the tissue that stimulates signaling involved in pain and repair. Prolozone follows a related injection method and adds a measured oxygen-ozone mixture. Both treatments are directed to the part of your body identified during your examination.

At Health Builders, we begin with what your body can no longer do comfortably. We ask when the pain began and what makes it worse. We also ask how it affects sleep, work, exercise, and family life, along with the care you have already received. We examine your movement and the joint, tendon, or ligament involved. Then we explain which injection we recommend and what it is intended to do.

How Prolozone and Prolotherapy Work at Health Builders

We begin with the movement or activity you want to regain. From there, we examine your body and identify the joint, tendon, or ligament involved. We explain the injection and review your progress through the tasks you want to handle again.

01

Tell Us Where You Hurt and What You Want Back

Tell us when the pain began, how often it returns, and what makes it worse. We also ask what you have stopped doing or handed over to someone else. Examples include lifting, driving, working, exercising, playing sports, caring for your child, or sleeping through the night.

02

Show Us the Movements That Bring the Pain Back

Show us what happens when you stand, walk, bend, reach, grip, lift, run, jump, or train. We watch for pain, stiffness, weakness, swelling, or hesitation. The exact movement gives us a useful way to compare your function as treatment continues.

03

We Examine Your Body

We examine the joint, tendon, ligament, or attachment point linked to your symptoms. We check movement, strength, tenderness, swelling, sensation, and stability when needed. We also review prior injuries, surgeries, medicines, supplements, and imaging. This helps us decide whether an injection, new imaging, rehabilitation, or a specialist is needed.

04

We Explain the Injection We Recommend

We tell you whether we recommend prolozone or prolotherapy and why. We explain what is in the injection, what the ingredients are intended to do, what you may feel, and how to prepare. When another treatment, imaging, rehabilitation, or a specialist is needed, we explain that before treatment begins.

05

Dr. Kim Performs Your Injection

Our team positions you and prepares the skin and treatment site. Dr. Kim carefully completes each injection at the location identified during your examination and explains what is being used before treatment begins.

06

We Check if Your Pain is Improving

During later visits, we compare the movement that brought you in with what you can do now. We ask about walking, lifting, grip, sleep, work, exercise, and sport. We use those changes to decide whether to repeat the injection, change treatment, order imaging, add rehabilitation, or refer you to a specialist.

How Prolozone and Prolotherapy Differ

Both treatments are injections used for joints, tendons, ligaments, and the places where those tissues attach to bone. The main difference is what goes into the injection and the response it creates in the tissue.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy commonly uses hypertonic dextrose, a concentrated sugar solution. The solution irritates the tissue in a controlled way and activates signals involved in inflammation and repair. We explain the concentration and injection points before your treatment begins.

Prolozone

Prolozone adds a measured oxygen-ozone mixture to a prolotherapy-based injection. Ozone creates a brief oxidative signal, a controlled chemical signal that can affect inflammatory activity and pain. We explain the ingredients and purpose of the injection before treatment begins.

Conditions We Treat With Prolozone and Prolotherapy

We use prolozone and prolotherapy for pain linked to tendons, ligaments, joints, and the places where those tissues attach to bone. Prolozone and prolotherapy can help reduce pain and improve movement in tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. Our musculoskeletal and sports medicine care also addresses joint pain, sports injuries, and movement problems throughout the body.

Tendonitis and Tendinopathy

Tendon pain can return whenever you grip, reach, lift, run, jump, or train. Prolotherapy places dextrose around the tendon or attachment point to stimulate a local response. Prolozone adds an oxygen-ozone signal to the injection. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and helping the tendon handle more load during work, exercise, and sport.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis can cause sharp heel pain with your first steps and make standing, walking, work, and exercise difficult. Prolotherapy uses dextrose to stimulate a local repair response around the plantar fascia and its attachment to the heel bone. Prolozone adds an oxygen-ozone mixture to influence pain and inflammation, helping you return to walking and activity with less heel pain.

How Prolozone and Prolotherapy Can Help You

Joint and tendon pain can change how you move long before you stop an activity completely. Both injections are directed to the joint or tissue involved, with the goal of reducing symptoms and helping your body handle more movement.

Reduce Pain During Movement

When pain returns each time you stand, lift, reach, grip, or train, you begin avoiding the movement altogether. Prolotherapy and prolozone act at the part of your body identified during the examination. Studies have reported pain improvement in plantar fascia, tendon, and knee-joint conditions. Less pain can make daily movement and exercise easier.

Improve Movement and Function

Pain and stiffness can change how you walk, bend, grip, lift, or exercise. Reducing pain at the treated joint or tissue can help you move more freely and use your body with less hesitation. Studies of dextrose prolotherapy and local oxygen-ozone injections have reported functional improvement in several musculoskeletal conditions.

Help Joints and Tendons Handle More Load

Work, exercise, and sport place repeated load on joints and tendons. As pain improves, you can increase activity in stages and see whether your body tolerates more walking, lifting, gripping, running, or training. We give you activity instructions based on the body part treated and how you respond.

Return to Your Work, Exercise, and Family Life

Pain can wake you at night, shorten your workday, keep you from training, and leave more responsibility with your family. Prolozone and prolotherapy are used to help you regain the activities pain has interrupted. We measure progress through the real tasks you want to handle again.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Your Prolozone or Prolotherapy Appointment

Knowing how to prepare, what the injection feels like, and what to do afterward can reduce uncertainty before your appointment.

Before Your Appointment

Complete your forms and bring imaging reports, prior treatment records, and a list of medicines, supplements, allergies, and past reactions. Note when your pain began, how often it returns, and which movements worsen it. Follow the food, hydration, driving, and medicine instructions we give you. Call us before your appointment if you develop a fever, infection, or skin problem near the injection site.

During Your Appointment

Tell us where you hurt and what you want your body to handle again. We check your movement, position you comfortably, clean the skin, identify the joint or tissue being treated, and explain each step. Tell us immediately if you develop severe pain, dizziness, nausea, numbness, weakness, breathing trouble, or another sudden symptom.

After Your Appointment

After prolozone or prolotherapy, soreness, stiffness, swelling, or bruising can occur. We explain when you can return to work, exercise, rehabilitation, or sport and how to care for the injection site. Call us for increasing redness, drainage, fever, severe swelling, uncontrolled pain, weakness, numbness, or worsening symptoms. Call 911 for trouble breathing, loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, or another medical emergency.

Prolozone and Prolotherapy Visits, Costs, Insurance, and Medicare

The diagnosis, body part treated, number of injection points, and response to treatment affect how often you return and what the treatment costs. We explain the schedule, price, and payment information before your first injection.

Treatment Course and Progress

Prolotherapy and Prolozone may be given once or as a series. The number and spacing depend on the diagnosis, joint or tissue treated, and how your body responds. Before recommending another injection, we ask how pain, movement, work, exercise, and daily activity have changed.

Current Pricing

Call our clinic for current prolozone and prolotherapy pricing. We will tell you the amount and what the fee includes. We will also explain whether the price changes with the body part treated or the number of injection sites.

Insurance and Medicare

Commercial insurance coverage depends on your plan and the procedure. Medicare does not cover prolotherapy, joint sclerotherapy, or ligament injections with sclerosing agents. Prolozone coverage depends on the procedure and billing description. Call our office before scheduling so we can explain the current fee, billing process, and what you may owe.

Questions About Prolozone or Prolotherapy?

Tell us where you hurt, which movements bring the pain back, which treatments you have tried, and what worries you about injections. Our team can answer questions about your first appointment, current pricing, Medicare, and what to bring before you schedule.

What Are the Side Effects of Prolozone and Prolotherapy?

Temporary soreness, stiffness, swelling, bruising, or a short increase in pain can follow either injection. Other risks include bleeding, infection, allergic reaction, and injury to a nerve, blood vessel, tendon, ligament, cartilage, or nearby tissue. Prolozone also requires controlled preparation and handling of the oxygen-ozone mixture. Call us for increasing redness, drainage, fever, severe swelling, uncontrolled pain, weakness, numbness, or symptoms that keep getting worse. Call 911 for trouble breathing, loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, or another medical emergency.

Soreness can last several days. The duration depends on the body part treated, injection solution, number of injection points, and activity after the visit. We give you instructions for walking, driving, work, exercise, rehabilitation, and sport before you leave. Follow those instructions even when you feel ready to do more. Call us if pain keeps getting worse or you develop redness, drainage, fever, severe swelling, weakness, or numbness.

Treatment can involve one injection or a series separated by several weeks. The number depends on the diagnosis, joint or tissue treated, response, and goals. We review the movement or activity that brought you in before recommending another injection. After reviewing your response, we recommend another injection, a different treatment, imaging, rehabilitation, or referral.

Prolotherapy commonly uses dextrose. Prolozone adds an oxygen-ozone mixture to a prolotherapy-based injection. Platelet-rich plasma uses a concentrated portion of your own blood and requires a blood draw and preparation before injection. The ingredients, preparation, cost, recovery, and evidence differ. We use the diagnosis, joint or tissue involved, prior treatment, and activity goals to explain which injection we recommend.

Prolozone uses medical oxygen-ozone within a local injection protocol. Cortisone injections use corticosteroid medicine to reduce inflammatory activity. The ingredients, biological effects, risks, and treatment goals differ. We use your diagnosis, examination, medicines, and prior treatment to recommend the injection for the joint or tissue involved.

Commercial insurance coverage depends on the plan and procedure. We do not participate with commercial insurance plans. Medicare’s national policy does not cover prolotherapy, joint sclerotherapy, or ligament injections with sclerosing agents. Prolozone coverage depends on the procedure and billing description. Contact us before scheduling to ask about current price, payment, claim submission, superbill information, and Medicare.
