- Joint Pain and Sports Injuries
Joint pain, back pain, stiffness, and sports injuries can take you away from work, training, sleep, and time with the people you love. When every movement has to be calculated around pain, it can feel like your body is deciding how much of your life you get to keep. At Health Builders, we provide musculoskeletal and sports medicine treatment for joint pain, back pain, soft-tissue injuries, and movement problems for patients across Northern Virginia.
Understanding Joint Pain, Back Pain, Sports Injuries, and Movement Limits
Musculoskeletal pain can change how you move and how you live. Lower back pain, joint pain, and chronic injuries can make it hard to sleep, work, exercise, or handle daily tasks. You may stop playing with your children or helping someone you love. Travel, training, and hobbies that bring you joy may also fall away. Pain can make your world feel smaller. You may start planning each day around what will hurt later. When the problem lasts, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness can follow. You may wonder whether your body will ever feel dependable again.
At Health Builders, we understand how much chronic pain and injury can take from your life. Our care team brings decades of medical, nursing, and Chiropractic experience to chronic pain and injuries. We look at where you hurt, how you move, and which daily activities have become difficult. At our Annandale clinic, we give you a detailed exam and explain your treatment choices clearly. Your findings guide the treatments we discuss. The goal is to help you move with less pain. We want you to care for the people who depend on you. We also want you to return to activities that make life feel like your own again.

How We Evaluate Your Joint Pain, Movement, and Sports Injuries
We look at what hurts, when it began, how you move, and what you do each day. Four areas help guide treatment, testing, follow-up, changes to daily activity, or referral. They also help us explain what we found and what the best course of treatment may be for you.
01
When Your Pain or Injury Began
We ask when the pain or injury began. We also ask whether it started all at once or built over time. Tell us how work, exercise, rest, sleep, or certain positions change it. Prior injuries and repeated flare-ups help us understand the pattern. This guides the exam and helps us decide whether testing or referral could help.
02
Movement, Strength, and Function
We examine how the affected area moves. We may watch how you walk, lift, reach, bend, or balance. We also check your strength and range of motion. These findings show how the pain impacts you and helps our care team choose treatment, changes to daily activity, follow-up, or further testing.
03
Joint, Muscle, and Soft-Tissue Findings
We examine where you feel pain and look for tenderness, swelling, changes in joint motion, and limits in nearby muscles or soft tissue. We may ask you to move against gentle pressure to see how the area responds. This helps us see where the problem is and if it may be a tendon or another soft tissue. The findings guide treatment or referral.
04
Imaging, Referral, and Treatment Planning
Bring any images, written reports, and treatment records you already have. We review them with your medications, daily activities, exam findings, and questions. Our care team decides whether new testing, a referral, or a certain treatment order could help. We also explain how we will track your progress.
Joint Pain and Sports Injury Treatment Options at Health Builders
Health Builders offers chiropractic care, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, and PRP for different musculoskeletal problems. Each treatment works differently to address pain, movement, or injured tissue. Our care team recommends treatment based on the joint, tendon, muscle, or movement problem affecting you.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate a local response in painful or injured soft tissue. It can be used for tendon and other musculoskeletal problems when pain is limiting walking, lifting, training, work, or exercise. Reducing pain and improving function can help you return to the movements your day requires.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care uses hands-on care for joints, muscles, and nearby soft tissue. It can help when stiffness, limited motion, or spine-related pain affects daily activity. It can also address movement problems that interfere with work or sport. Treatment works with joint motion and the tissues around it. The goal is to help you move with less pain and more control.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture uses thin needles at selected points to influence pain signaling and muscle tension. For musculoskeletal pain, it can help reduce pain and improve comfort when tight muscles or recurring pain make movement harder. This can make work, exercise, and everyday activity easier.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma uses concentrated platelets from your own blood in an injection directed at an injured joint, tendon, or other tissue. Platelets release growth factors involved in tissue repair. PRP gives our care team an injection option when a musculoskeletal injury continues to limit movement or activity.

Pain can take time away from work, family, sleep, and the parts of life you enjoy. Schedule an appointment at Health Builders in Annandale, or call our team with questions.
What is the treatment for sacroiliac joint pain?
Most sacroiliac joint pain is treated first with temporary changes to painful activities, medication when safe, and exercises that improve hip strength and pelvic stability. Physical therapy and manual treatment may also improve movement and reduce pain.
If pain continues after conservative treatment, an image-guided steroid injection may help confirm and treat pain coming from the sacroiliac joint. Radiofrequency ablation, which uses heat to interrupt pain signals, may help some people with persistent pain. Surgery is generally reserved for severe cases that continue after other treatments.
At Health Builders, Chiropractic and Acupuncture can be part of conservative treatment for lower back, pelvic, and SI joint pain. Our care team can also discuss whether imaging or referral is needed.
What is a good treatment for lower back pain?
Chronic lower back pain is commonly treated with regular movement, structured exercise, and non-drug treatments. The American College of Physicians includes acupuncture and spinal manipulation among its recommended options. Its guideline also includes exercise, tai chi, yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Anti-inflammatory medication may help when it is safe for you. Treatment may also need to address nerve pain, muscle weakness, arthritis, or another condition causing the symptoms. New weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, fever, major trauma, or rapidly worsening pain requires prompt medical care.
Health Builders offers Chiropractic and Acupuncture for lower back pain. We also review whether your symptoms need imaging or evaluation from another clinician.
How is hip joint pain treated?
Hip joint pain treatment depends on whether the pain comes from arthritis, a tendon, a muscle, an injury, or the lower back. Hip osteoarthritis is often treated with exercise or physical therapy to improve strength, movement, and daily function. Anti-inflammatory medication can reduce pain when it is safe for you.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons also supports corticosteroid injections for short-term pain relief in hip osteoarthritis. Severe arthritis that continues to limit walking, sleep, and daily activity may lead to a discussion about hip replacement. Tendon injuries and pain traveling from the lower back require different treatment.
At Health Builders we examine whether your pain appears connected with the hip joint, nearby soft tissue, or the lower back. We can then discuss relevant treatment options or referral.
What is the treatment for tendonitis?
Tendonitis treatment usually begins by reducing the activity that keeps irritating the tendon. Treatment then rebuilds strength through progressive loading exercises. Progressive loading means placing gradually increasing resistance on the tendon as it becomes stronger.
Long periods of complete rest can reduce the tendon’s ability to handle work, exercise, and sports. A structured strengthening plan is a central treatment for common tendon problems. Shockwave Therapy may also help with certain chronic tendinopathies. Injection treatments and surgery are considered based on the tendon involved, the diagnosis, prior treatment, and how long the problem has lasted.
At Health Builders, our team offers several treatment options for tendon injuries. We have decades of experience helping patients with a wide variety of injuries, and would be happy to talk to you about your tendonitis symptoms.
What is Prolozone?
Prolozone is an injection approach that combines prolotherapy with oxygen and ozone gas. Prolotherapy involves injecting a solution, often dextrose, around a painful joint or soft tissue. The injection is intended to create a local response in the treated area.
Published Prolozone studies have mainly involved knee osteoarthritis. Small clinical trials have reported improvements in pain and function. Some studies found results similar to dextrose prolotherapy or hypertonic saline injections. Current research supports considering Prolozone as an injection option for selected musculoskeletal problems. Larger studies are needed to identify which conditions and patients receive the greatest benefit.
Health Builders offers Prolozone and Prolotherapy for selected joint, ligament, tendon, and soft-tissue problems.
